WebTV and
WaveTop (August 1998).iso/full/W98Comp/W98Icon.gif) Both these options are
redundant in the UK at the moment. WebTV is
currently being trialled with BT, but no
launch date has been announced. It will
allow PCs with suitable TV adapters and
an Internet connection to see broadcast
TV within a browser frame so enhanced TV
content, like links to cast members'
sites or TV schedules for shows, can be
displayed. This is the PC version of the
set top box, WebTV, bought by Microsoft
then licensed to Sony which is due to be
revamped with the Windows CE OS later
this year.
WaveTop is another
new technology that requires specific
hardware not yet available over here, but
it will allow users to receive Internet
content that is broadcast to them, rather
than having to connect with a modem or
LAN.
